When any institution draws 2 million visitors, including former President Jimmy Carter and current President Barack Obama, back when he was a U.S. Senator, you have to know that there is something special going on. Our own Birmingham Civil Rights Institute has a worldwide reputation as a place where young and old can learn about the Civil Rights era and be inspired to do great things to protect civil and human rights in the future.
This was always the dream of its founders and a prime reason for calling BCRI an institute and not a museum. With two National Medals for Museum and Library Service and national accreditation, BCRI has become a top-ranked heritage-tourism site. We are glad of many opportunities to support BCRI as it nourishes the next generation in a special way, offering opportunities for young people to train, travel and gain an important perspective on new ways for us all to build a better world — together.
