From $15 million over three years for the UAB’s Comprehensive Cancer Center to $1 million for a biotech company housed at Innovation Depot, we are proud to see federal grants for great things going on in our community.
UAB won the Health Care Innovation Challenge Grant Award from the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Innovation to develop a navigation network that will help cancer patients during their treatment. Soluble Therapeutics Inc. won its grant from the National Institutes of Health as part of the Small Business Technology Transfer Program for new technology that will help in developing certain kinds of drugs.
You don’t have to understand the details of what it takes to bring life-saving drugs to market or the challenges of making sure each patient receives appropriate care during cancer treatment to know that these grants are significant. We also appreciate the fact these national funders recognize the great things going on in the Birmingham region and want to invest in these opportunities.
