For those who just came in on the conversation, the Community Foundation of Greater Birmingham was founded in 1959 as a way for our community to build an endowment that would always serve the greatest needs and seize the best opportunities to make life better. Today we’re known nationally in our field as a leader, thanks to the generosity and vision of donors past and present who contributed to our Community Funds, the ones dedicated always to our five-county area.
As we began planning to celebrate our 50th anniversary and provide a great “foundation” (pun intended) for the next 50 years, we asked the community for their input. Without exception, they challenged us to take on more big, transformational projects. And we agreed.
Today, thanks to the contributions and pledges of more than 50 visionary individuals and families, your Community Foundation has a new resource in the form of Community Catalyst Funds. And on Jan. 13, 2011, we will announce the first investment from those funds, which will remain as an on-going resource for doing the big things that will move us forward – together.
If you haven’t had a chance to RSVP, come on anyway, because you don’t want to miss this special moment when we celebrate a new way to do even more for this place we call home.
