Everybody knows that January is the time for resolutions. We make promises to ourselves that, if fulfilled, would result in better people and maybe even a better community as well.
With such hopes in mind, at least some of the more than 20,000 families and 50,000 individuals visited YMCA branches more than 1.4 million times in 2009. Maybe a long-time exerciser learned a better way to perform an exercise. Or a child was inspired by a visit to career day at the Youth Center.
No matter the activity, 1.4 million visits offer a lot of chances to take a new path toward healthy living. In 2010, our Metropolitan Birmingham YMCA takes on another leading role with its Pathways program and continues to work with the Community Foundation on Pioneering Healthier Communities and the Health Action Partnership.
