In Birmingham, we’re fortunate to celebrate National Philanthropy Day annually, this year on Nov. 15, with the recognition of top winners in seven awards (more on that in another post). At the Community Foundation, we also celebrate Community Foundation week, which starts today.
Across the U.S., more than 700 community foundations serve their individual geographic areas. In the fast-growing form of philanthropy, they give generously — more than $3.7 billion from the top 100 community foundations in 2010, for example. We are proud to be among those top 100 and to continue to uphold the high standards of this field that turns 100 years old next year.
Got a question about what your Community Foundation does to improve life in Greater Birmingham? We invite you to tour the rest of our website and check out some of the stories that illustrate our work in four important Results areas.
Wondering what makes the Community Foundation run? Look in your own mirror, because we base everything we do on what we hear from our community. All our resources come from that community too — we are not part of government or business, although we gain much from partnerships with these important parts of our community, as well as with so many other wonderful nonprofit organizations.
So, happy Community Foundation week to you! Pat yourself on the back and join us in a moment of thanks for generous and forward-thinking individuals who give back every day and help us make good things happen through community foundations everywhere — and especially the Community Foundation of Greater Birmingham.
