For children hit hard by the tornadoes last April, the change to get back to routine of school may come as a welcome relief. Thanks to another partnership inspired by the band Alabama and the Bama Rising concert last June, these youngsters will get extra help with their supplies.
The Sharpie Corporation learned about tornado recovery efforts because of Bama Rising and wanted to put their pens and markers to work in hard-hit areas. Donations were made to school systems in eight tornado-impacted counties – including Marion, Franklin, Sumter, Pickens, Greene, Hale, Marengo and Choctaw.
Donations included 30,000 red and black pens and 3,000 each of liquid paper, expo markers, highlighters, Sharpie pens and poster paint markers. The artwork and projects created with these materials will provide some real signs of progress!
Even if you don’t have school supplies to spare, you can give to support tornado recovery locally through the Emergency Response Fund or statewide through the Alabama Tornado Recovery Fund.
