Connecting the Past to the Future
In 1959 several prominent community leaders, who were also generous givers, came together to create a public endowment that would benefit the community for generations to come. These visionary leaders wanted to make sure that our five-county area always had significant resources to reach out to those in need and to seize opportunities to make life better.
In the 58 years since, the Community Foundation of Greater Birmingham has connected philanthropists, nonprofits and engaged leaders to build a stronger more vibrant future for our community.
The mission of the Community Foundation of Greater Birmingham is to ignite passion for transformational change.
We are here to…
Engage: listen, involve; enable someone to act
Inspire: acknowledge each person’s value, encourage, affect
Serve: treat with honor, dignity and respect; lift up; help; benefit
Lead: show the way; to be a reason or motive; to be a route or means of access
The primary community that we serve is the region around Birmingham, Alabama including Blount, Jefferson, St. Clair, Shelby and Walker counties.
The Community Foundation has made a lasting impact throughout the Greater Birmingham Area. To learn more, watch our new video:
