More than 100 years ago, Eagan expressed his belief that the Golden Rule was the best philosophy to follow in running this business. “That means treating people the way you want to be treated,” said Van Richey, president and chief executive officer of ACIPCO. “The ACIPCO /Eagan Scholarship Fund allows us to honor John and Susan Eagan by helping our employees to do just that.”
The fund awards scholarships to students who are the children of current ACIPCO employees. A contribution from the company started the fund, but its growth depends in part on gifts from others who wish to honor the Eagans or support the company’s belief in the importance of education. Contributions to the fund are tax-deductible.
“We want employees, retirees and friends of ACIPCO to this fund to share their blessings with each other,” Richey said. “Education was important to John Eagan, even though he never completed high school, and it continues to be emphasized at ACIPCO, where on-site classes are offered through our Eagan College.”
Using the Community Foundation of Greater Birmingham to hold the endowment for the scholarship made it easy to set up the scholarship fund. A committee selects each year’s recipient and the Community Foundation handles all administrative details.
