Birmingham Education Foundation was created out of the Yes We Can! Birmingham initiative of the Community Foundation as a way to bring the voice of the community to the leadership of Birmingham City Schools. The organization now known as “Ed” is connecting and reconnecting with the parents, students, educators, community leaders and neighbors who provided input during the original round of Community Conversations in 2008.
Check the Ed website for a full list of community meetings and pick the one that is most convenient. Sessions were set from August 13 through August 22 in all the sectors of Birmingham that were part of the original grassroots effort. The crowd at Avondale Library on August 17 included Jocelyn Bayles, Parker High School parent and product of Mobile public schools (shown in photo raising her hand for Ed).
Welcome back, everyone. Ed’s looking forward to getting to know you all and learning more about how this organization can focus its support on improved educational outcomes for students and families.
