Do women give more to charity than men do? A new study by Indiana University’s Center on Philanthropy shows that women give more, sometimes almost twice as much, and they give at these increased levels no matter what their income.
The stereotype, based on previous research, has been that women directed decisions about charity in married households and that they have a strong tendency to give, but that the amounts might be less. The recent study shows women giving more and spreading out their gifts among different charities, and that they give more overall.
We’ve seen the strength of giving by women (and men) in support of our Women’s Fund, so this is not a surprise. It’s good to have the report as validation and another reason to seek out women as partners in philanthropy of all kinds. Check this link to find out more about the report.
