Spring 2021 Request for Proposal Opportunity

The Community Foundation’s Spring Grant Cycle will have a special focus on our Equity and Inclusion Priority with two new Requests for Proposal: Advancing Equity in Grantmaking and the Instruments of Hope Unity Fund’s Engaging Diverse Communities.

Advancing Equity in Grantmaking

The Advancing Equity in Grantmaking RFP is designed to address racial disparities and build the capacity of Black-led organizations working to build and sustain Black communities. This RFP will be the primary vehicle of the Foundation’s grant making for our Spring 2021 grant cycle under the Equity and Inclusion priority.

The intent of this RFP is to identify innovative, community-based organizations in the greater Birmingham region that are led by African-Americans and primarily serve the Black community. It aims to provide funding and capacity-building resources to organizations working to improve the conditions that affect Black communities.  The Foundation is partnering with the Birmingham Change Fund, a 16 year old African-American giving circle housed at the Foundation, to implement this RFP.

The RFP opens March 5th with applications due by Sunday, March 28th at midnight. For proposals invited to move forward, site visits will be scheduled in April and grant awards will be announced at end of May 2021.

Engaging Diverse Communities

While our community has made great strides in a number of different areas, stark inequities persist.  We believe the continued advancement of our region is contingent on greater unity and collaboration, and that neither of those can be achieved without addressing racial disparities, and more specifically their underlying causes – the interconnected systems, practices, policies, relationships and mindsets that created these inequities and allow them to persist.

The Instruments of Hope Unity Fund is seeking organizations working on answering these questions. Through the Engaging Diverse Communities RFP, organizations will have the opportunity to share their theory of change and how incorporating focused work on Narrative Change or Building Diverse Coalitions can amplify the impact of their work.

The RFP opens March 5th with applications due by Friday, March 26th at midnight. For proposals invited to move forward, site visits will be scheduled in April and grant awards will be announced at end of May 2021.
