A Trek Through Titusville
This past Thursday, April 20th, strawberry bushes at the Bush Hill Community Garden and Urban Farm produced their first few tentative fruits as the Community Foundation’s bus-full of donors, staff, and volunteers discussed community initiatives to revitalize the area. Neighborhood revitalization and spring share many characteristics: renewal, growth, and reconnection. So, to get a closer look at the organizations restoring and growing the Western Birmingham neighborhoods, we hopped on a bus for our second annual bus tour, A Trek through Titusville.

LGBTQ Fund Grant Cycle is Now Open
The LGBTQ Fund at the Community Foundation of Greater Birmingham is thrilled to announce the release of its Request for Proposal (RFP), launching the 2023 Grant Cycle. Grant applications are due online by midnight the evening of Friday, May 15, 2023.

The tornado outbreak that ripped through Mississippi and Alabama on March 25 leaving at least 26 dead and devastating entire communities. Celebrating the new Legacy IRA
Congress passed the much-anticipated, $1.65 trillion-dollar omnibus spending bill known as the Consolidated Appropriations Act of 2023 (“CAA”) on December 23, 2022, followed by President Biden signing the Act into law on December 29, 2022. At more than 4,000 pages, the Act includes a wide range of provisions that impact multiple sectors.

Support for Earthquake Recovery in Turkey and Syria
Turkey and Syria were struck by devastating earthquakes on Feb. 6, the first being a magnitude 7.8 that caused large aftershocks, including a 7.5 magnitude earthquake nine hours after the first earthquake occurred. Although this region is earthquake-prone, this was the most devastating to hit Turkey in over 20 years. Additionally, this region has been experiencing other humanitarian crises, making the long-term recovery and rebuilding all the more challenging. Below are funds that have been set up to direct resources, as well as agencies who are on the ground in the region, providing services and support.

Community Foundation Names New Board Chair, Members
Brian Hamilton has been named chair of the board of directors of the Community Foundation of Greater Birmingham, the state’s oldest and largest community foundation. The Community Foundation also announced that Rob Blalock, Rashada LeRoy and Guin Robinson are joining the board with terms starting in 2023.
