REMY FUND SURPASSES $1,000,000, AWARDS 2021 GRANTS
The Remy Fund for Pets and Animal Services, at the Community Foundation of Greater Birmingham, announced that the endowed fund now exceeds $1,000,000. The Remy Fund was established by Birmingham area philanthropist, Ken Jackson, and is supported by numerous generous donors.

LGBTQ FUND PROVIDES GRANTS TO LOCAL ORGANIZATIONS
The LGBTQ Fund of the Community Foundation of Greater Birmingham announced a record $47,800 in grants awarded to 12 area nonprofits. Since 2016, the LGBTQ Fund has provided more than $190,000 to support programs in Jefferson, Shelby, St. Clair, Blount, and Walker counties. Community Foundation awards $1.52 million in grants
The Community Foundation is pleased to announce that it has awarded $1,524,000 in grants to 63 area nonprofits serving Blount, Jefferson, Shelby, St. Clair and Walker counties. These are the first grants awarded under the Foundation’s new strategic plan centered on five priorities: Thriving Communities, Regional Cooperation, Overcoming Persistent Poverty, Equity and Inclusion, and Economic Opportunity for All.

March 25 Tornado Disaster Relief
On Thursday, March 25th, two tornadoes touched down in the Birmingham area. These tornadoes that were part of a system of severe weather in the state that killed at least five people in Calhoun County caused significant structural damage to many homes and businesses in the communities of Lee Branch, Eagle Point, Greystone and Dunnavant in Shelby County and Clay, Pinson and Trussville in Jefferson County.

Community Foundation Names New Board Chair, Members
Cathy Wright has been named chair of the board of directors of the Community Foundation of Greater Birmingham, the state’s oldest and largest community foundation. The Community Foundation also announced that Nancy Goedecke and Vivian Mora are joining the board with terms starting in 2021.

Community Foundation Awards $1.19M in COVID Response Grants
The Community Foundation has announced $1,197 in grants to 68 area nonprofits impacted by COVID-19. In October, the Foundation opened Phase Three of its COVID Response and Relief grant cycle. The grants, which were awarded this week, were made in two categories: $654,000 to 35 organizations for programs and services to meet critical needs related to the COVID-19 crisis and $543,000 to 33 organizations for operation support to help nonprofits bridge the impacts of the crisis.

Community Foundation announces second round of Phase 2 COVID-19 Response Grants
This week, the Community Foundation announced the second round of Phase Two COVID response, awarding $411,000 in grants to 27 organizations. Since the pandemic began in March, the Foundation has awarded more than $2.5 million in grants to support organizations that assist the most vulnerable residents of the region whose lifelines to food, shelter, medicine and employment are at risk due to the pandemic.
