Liz Edwards

The Community Foundation of Greater Birmingham has named Liz Edwards the organization’s new Vice President of Philanthropy. She has more than 25 years of experience, as both a volunteer and a professional, in the nonprofit sector.

Edwards was previously Legacy Gifts Officer for United Way of Central Alabama, where she managed a significant portfolio of donors and cultivated strong relationships, consistently increasing engagement, and growing and sustaining contributions to the organization.

“I believe in the power of collaborative, community-driven philanthropy, and I have a deep respect for the unique perspectives that enrich our community,” Edwards says. “I am drawn to the Community Foundation because of its dedication to pinpointing the critical, underlying issues that lead to disparities in education, health, and economic development in our region and effectively addressing them.”

Edwards’ professional experience also includes stints as director of development for Sight Savers America and executive director of STAIR (Start The Adventure In Reading). Her volunteer involvement includes the YWCA board, president of the Board of Trustees at The Altamont School, and 2010-11 president of the Junior League of Birmingham.

“We are incredibly pleased to bring Liz’s experience, skills, and love for this region to our team,” says Christopher Nanni, CEO and President of the Community Foundation. “Liz has a talent for understanding why a donor is giving, identifying what truly matters to them, and illuminating the impact they can have on our community today and for generations to come.”

Edwards, a native of Louisville, Ky., has lived in Birmingham for almost 30 years. She earned a BBA from the Terry College of Business at the University of Georgia. She is the 2018 recipient of The Women’s Committee of 100 Brother Bryan Prayer Point Award.

Edwards will begin at the Foundation on Oct. 1.
