The Community Foundation of Greater Birmingham welcomes five new board members for terms beginning in 2025. In addition, the Foundation is pleased to announce the appointment of Sanjay Singh, Ph.D., as board chair.
An entrepreneur, investor, and philanthropist, Singh was a faculty member at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) for 20 years. He serves on numerous boards, including Birmingham Museum of Art, Rotary Club of Birmingham, Prosper Birmingham, Alys Stephens Center, Leadership Alabama, and Alabama Symphony Orchestra. In November 2024, he and his wife Dora Singh were nominated by the Community Foundation and honored by the Association of Fundraising Professionals Alabama Chapter with the United Way of Central Alabama Outstanding Civic Leader award.
New board members are:
Dr. Anupam Agarwal, Senior Vice President for Medicine and Dean of the Heersink School of Medicine at UAB. Agarwal serves on the boards of Highlands School, UA Health Services Foundation, and UAB Health System.
Tate Forrester, President and CEO of O’Neal Industries, Inc. A member of the Prosper Birmingham board, Forrester is involved in the Monday Morning Quarterback Club and Kiwanis. He holds a BA from Vanderbilt University, and an MBA from the University of Texas.
Danny McKinney, Cofounder and Partner in McKinney Capital. McKinney is an alumnus of the University of Alabama and Harvard Business School. He serves as chair of the boards of Birmingham Promise and Alabama Symphony Orchestra and is on the boards of Jones Valley Teaching Farm and Historic Bethel Baptist Church.
Mitchie Neel, Executive Director of Blount County Education Foundation. Neel is on the board of the Blount County Literacy Council. She retired as Blount County Schools curriculum coordinator in 2009.
Ralph Williams, Vice President of Alabama Power Birmingham Division. He has served as a national board member for the Southern Christian Leadership Conference and co-chair of the National Baptist Convention Labor Roundtable. Williams attended Miles College and Alabama A&M University.
