REMY FUND SURPASSES $500,000 IN GRANTS AWARDED
Since 2011, the Remy Fund for Pets and Animal Services has provided more than $500,000 in grants to companion animal (dogs, cats and horses) nonprofit organizations, serving Jefferson, Shelby, St. Clair, Blount and Walker counties. This year, the fund is awarding $60,000 in grants to 11 organizations in our region.

Community Foundation Awards $1.38M in Grants

Ukraine Humanitarian Crisis
After months of tension, Russia invaded Ukraine on Thursday, February 24. Attacks of war have put millions of civilians at risk. Many have volunteered to fight or been caught in the crossfire, with refugees escaping to neighboring countries. Ukrainians desperately need emergency aid.

Small Business Impact Grant supports a Happy Angel
Kerlyn Mendez has always had an entrepreneurial spirit, but it wasn’t until she moved to Alabama in 2016 that she decided it was time to start her own business. Her passion for decorating and crafts led her to the leadership courses at ¡HICA! that helped her develop a plan for her own floral design and decorating business. In 2019 she received a loan from Affinity Group Lending, ¡HICA!’s micro-loan program supported by a grant from the Community Foundation, and opened her own business, Happy Angels.

The Community Foundation of Greater Birmingham, the state’s oldest and largest community foundation, announced that DeLynn Zell, Ruffner Page and Selwyn Vickers, M.D., FACS, are joining the Board of Directors with terms starting in January 2022.

Community Foundation closes out 2021 grantmaking with $1.27 million to 42 organizations
The Community Foundation of Greater Birmingham has announced $1,277,00 in grants to 42 area nonprofits in Jefferson, Blount, Shelby, St. Clair and Walker counties. This is the second round of grants awarded under the Community Foundation’s new strategic plan that was launched in 2019.
